NCA-AIIO is an associate exam, so four weeks at 6 to 8 hours per week is a realistic runway for someone with some data center or IT background. The plan follows the exam's weighting: the two big theory domains (AI Infrastructure at 40%, Essential AI Knowledge at 38%) get the first three weeks, hands-on operations work threads through, and practice exams run as a feedback loop rather than a final cram.
For the exam's structure, read the complete NCA-AIIO guide; for topic-level depth, keep the domains breakdown open as you work.
Adjust for your background
Coming from a data center or IT ops role? The hardware and operations material will feel familiar; spend more time on the Essential AI Knowledge domain (AI/ML/DL concepts, the software stack). Coming from a software or ML background? Do the reverse: the AI concepts are your strength, the physical infrastructure is the gap.
The Schedule
AI Foundations & Diagnostic
Week 1- •Read the NCA-AIIO domains breakdown end to end
- •Essential AI Knowledge: AI vs ML vs deep learning, GPU vs CPU for AI
- •The NVIDIA software stack: CUDA, cuDNN, TensorRT, NCCL
- •Take a full-length diagnostic practice exam and map your three-domain gaps
AI Infrastructure Part 1
Week 2- •GPU platforms: DGX vs HGX, and where each fits
- •NVLink (intra-node) vs InfiniBand (inter-node) networking
- •Power, cooling, and why GPU density breaks traditional facilities
- •Training vs inference workloads and their different demands
AI Infrastructure Part 2 + Ops
Week 3- •Reference architectures: BasePOD and SuperPOD
- •On-premises vs cloud vs hybrid; storage and data center design
- •AI Operations: DCGM monitoring, MIG/vGPU virtualization, scheduling
- •Hands-on: GPU monitoring, MIG sharing, GPU Operator on Kubernetes
Rehearsal & Exam
Week 4- •One timed full-length practice exam per day, error-log review between
- •Re-drill your weakest domain from the log
- •Reach 80%+ on a few consecutive timed exams
- •Confirm Certiverse setup, rest the final day, sit the exam

Week-by-Week Notes
Week 1 builds the conceptual base and draws your map. Essential AI Knowledge is 38% of the exam and it is the foundation the rest sits on, so start there: nail the AI/ML/deep-learning nesting, the GPU-vs-CPU parallelism argument, and what each library in the NVIDIA stack does. Then take the diagnostic exam before you feel ready; the per-domain score tells you which of the three areas needs the most work. Preporato's NCA-AIIO practice exams split scores by domain automatically.
Week 2 is the heaviest domain. AI Infrastructure is 40% of the exam, and its highest-value single fact is the NVLink-versus-InfiniBand distinction (intra-node versus inter-node), which the exam tests directly. Spend real time on the platform families (DGX vs HGX) and the power/cooling reality that makes AI infrastructure different from traditional IT.
Week 3 finishes infrastructure and covers operations. Reference architectures (BasePOD, SuperPOD) and the on-prem-vs-cloud trade-offs round out the big domain, then the 22% Operations domain brings DCGM, MIG/vGPU, and scheduling. This is the week to get hands-on, because operations concepts land far faster after you have seen the tools run.
Turn the operations domain into recognition
Monitor real GPU telemetry with a DCGM-style pipeline, partition a GPU with MIG, and walk the GPU Operator chain on Kubernetes. One session covers most of the 22% Operations domain.
Week 4 is rehearsal only. No new material in the final week; consolidating the two big domains beats adding anything new. Timed exams train the fast, roughly 72-seconds-per-question pace a 60-minute clock demands, and your error log directs the review. Exam-day tactics are in the first-attempt guide.
