AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional

The SAP-C02 is significantly more difficult than the Solutions Architect Associate exam. It features longer, more complex scenarios (often 200+ words per question), requires deeper multi-service integration knowledge, and tests enterprise-scale architectural decision-making. Most candidates report needing 2-3x more preparation time than for the Associate exam.

The passing score is 750 out of 1000. Unlike the Associate exam (which has 65 questions with 15 unscored), all 75 questions on the Professional exam are scored. This makes every question count.

You have 180 minutes (3 hours) to complete 75 questions, giving you approximately 2.4 minutes per question. However, questions are significantly longer and more complex than Associate-level exams, making time management critical.

While not strictly required, AWS strongly recommends holding the Solutions Architect Associate certification before attempting the Professional exam. The Professional exam assumes mastery of all Associate-level concepts and builds upon them.

If you fail, you must wait 14 calendar days before retaking the exam. At $300 per attempt, thorough preparation with practice exams is strongly recommended before scheduling.

The certification is valid for 3 years. To maintain it, you must pass the current version of the exam before your certification expires.

The SAP-C02 exam costs $300 USD. If you already hold an AWS certification, you receive a 50% discount ($150). Given the high cost and difficulty, preparation is crucial.
